Retailer’s Stamps

This is an intriguing little pair of mismatched china pieces. They both have the impressed swan mark for Charles Ford wDSC07627ho operated in the Staffs Potteries in Hanley between 1874 and 1904 and used this mark between 1900 and the sale of the works. However, this has been over-printed with a black stamp for JAMES GREEN & NEPHEW LONDON who were retailers operating in St. Paul’s Churchyard so it is likely that Green’s acquired the stock and sold it on later. If only the old cup and saucer could speak as they were no doubt part of a much larger service for a grand home.  You can find these pieces and many more in my Etsy shop – just follow this link.
